Almondell & Calderwood Country Park is the most wonderful place to explore. It has a visitors centre which includes a small museum with masses of information about Tom’s brother Harry, who built his dream house here in the valley of the River Almond and about the Erskine family who continued to live here until the 1940s. It was here that Thomas came in 1823 to visit his sister-in-law, and it was here he died.
One of the many fascinating leaflets available in the centre explaining the history of the house and the estate.
Astronomical Pillar built by Tom’s brother David, the 11th earl, and moved here from Kirkhill Castle where it was reconstructed.
