 The Suffolk Punch Trust

Our visit to this wonderful centre at Hollesey Bay in Suffolk was an absolute delight and I recommend going there. There is a tea place, (just as well as it is quite remote) shop and a museum and of course there are the horses. Wonderful creatures, not huge but very muscular and all the glorious chesnut colour (chesnut, not chestnut, note) with mouse coloured velvet noses and white socks. These horses are sadly rare these days but the trust has a breeding programme in place so hopefully they will become more secure. I found the museum particularly useful when researching the Victorian section of River of Destiny with its focus on the farm and the forge. The trust is not open in the winter so if you do plan to go there, check with their website http://www.suffolkpunchtrust.org/
